Autumn is my favourite season. A time to change up your wardrobe, embrace the layers and get cosy in knitwear and coats. I get really excited at the beginning of a new season to see what trends are emerging and it gets me thinking about what I am going to buy for my wardrobe.
Here are my 5 top Autumn trends for 2024.
These are the 5 standout trends for me that I will be embracing and wearing in the coming season. I have nearly 25 years experience in the fashion industry, I shop every single day for my clients and I know from being a buyer how to interpret trends for them to become best sellers.
Trends emerge from season to season and can evolve as time goes on. These trends are a guide that influences style, fashion and many other things. When I do my job I interpret these trends for each client in their own personal style. It's not about jumping on the trends each season, it's about how to stay up to date and stylish for your style.
The polo shirt was first seen on the catwalk 2 years ago from the likes of Gucci, Mui Mui and of course Ralph Lauren. It's only now the high street has embraced it. The preppy top is part of the 90s revival trend and is set to dominate this Autumn. It is best to style this masculine top with a feminine twist. Wear with skirt, ballet pumps, tucked into jeans or with tailored separates.
Red has been the strongest colour for 2024 and this slowly moves into burgundy tones for Autumn. First spotted early Spring 2024 burgundy has cemented itself as your new favourite tone. Update your look with a burgundy bag to pop against colours such as grey, camel, navy and pink. From deep oxblood to rich merlot, there are so many variations of this deep, reddish-brown shade. Plenty of high-street brands have been jumping on the burgundy bandwagon as autumn rolls in, I don't see this trend slowing down anytime soon.
Leopard print never goes out of style and this Autumn its got us in a stronghold grip. Brands such as Ganni, Damson Madder, Rixo and Sezane are where you will find the perfect animal print pieces to update your wardrobe with. The look this season is more 'quiet luxury' for a polished fresh take on the leopard print. Style it wardrobe classics such as a navy blazer, light blue shirt, gold jewellery and some trainers.
The utility jacket is new for Autumn, a move on from a shacket that has been around for a number of years now. Coined the 'barn jacket or the 'field jacket' right now it's THE jacket to be seen in. Rooted in the countryside aesthetic, it has been reimagined into something that we all want to effortlessly incorporate into our daily wardrobes. Designers such as Prada and Loewe put barn jackets in their SS24 catwalk shows, you'll be grabbing that trusty Barbour and wearing it with your floaty dresses in the next couple of weeks.
My final trend is more of a style and look, something that's come about from the return of Chloe as a brand; edgy boho. For me it’s about interpreting boho in a more edgy, rock n roll kinda way to keep it fresh and new. It's more of a vibe than a look, it's how you style your outfits and being more comfortable with what you are wearing. The ruffles, the lace, sheer fabrics against more structured pieces such as blazers, suede jackets and high waisted jeans.
