Autumn Style with Style Up With Abby

Autumn Style with Style Up With Abby

What does Autumn mean to you?

Changeable weather? 3 months til Christmas? Shorter days? Last sips of rosé?

One thing is for sure - we still have to get dressed every day.

Autumn is all about putting away the “high summer” pieces and having some fun reacquainting yourself with the rest of your wardrobe. Here are my top tips for getting the most out of your wardrobe:

  1. Get out of the gym kit

It’s easy to bung on the gym kit first thing for all the morning jobs (school run, dog walk, exercise) and it’s tempting to stay in it all day. But guaranteed you will feel better, look better & generally have a better day if you get changed. Midday is a good rule of thumb. Whatever happens in the afternoon & evening - you will be ready!

  1. Layering is key

Cold mornings, warm afternoons, chilly evenings. That’s typical Autumn weather. Be prepared. Layer up. Wear shirts open over cami-tops & T-shirts. Wear a denim jacket under a lightweight trench coat. Sling a cosy knit over your shoulders. Use all the pieces in your wardrobe.

  1. Accessories make an outfit

The easiest way to style up even the most basic outfit - accessorise! A belt can highlight a waist. Jewellery can make an outfit more interesting AND detract the eye from other areas you don’t want to emphasise. The sun is still shining - so keep sunnies to hand at all times for instant glamour.

  1. Shop with purpose

If you’re tempted to add a few pieces to your Autumn wardrobe - then know exactly what you want before you shop. Write a list. Stick to it.

When you find something you love - ask yourself: can I style this 3 ways and can I wear this for (at least) 3 occasions? Everything in your wardrobe needs to work hard!
