Buying on Vinted

Buying on Vinted

I thought I would write a little guide to getting the best out of buying on Vinted. This is something I do a lot, preloved is always my first choice if I can. Lots of people say to me they can never find anything good on Vinted so the secret is to make the algorithm work for you and then the best things and things that you may be interested come up in your feed and are shown to you and that is often how I find the best things.

I have bought everything from leather jackets to wool blazers. Vintage, designer and high street alike. All at a fraction of the price. My best buy I think is a vintage YSL men’s blazer. It was about £45. I have also had a butter soft leather jacket for £20.

So the key is to let Vinted know the kind of things you’re interested in and you do that by searching for those things. For example, I wanted to look at sleeveless trench so I searched for ‘sleeveless trenches’ and hearted / liked a few. It’s also a good idea to search by brand if you’re interested in specific brands e.g. Ganni then the algorithm will suggest this brand to you in future. I’d def throw in a few brands you like and heart items so that the future suggested “for you” list will contain this brand.

I wanted a cream lace dress so had a search on Vinted rather than look on the High Street as my first choice. I found gorgeous Zara one straight away. Barely worn and £6! I never search by size the reason for this is that firstly vintage sizing is often different to current sizing, and secondly people don’t always put the right size and I’m always happy to wear something oversized. Sizes are crazy and varied on the British high street and you may be one thing in one shop and not in another. So you’re going to be limiting yourself by searching by size. Also Vinted seems to think a 12 is large which is just nuts. Sometimes clothes are incorrectly sized on vinted so always try and look at the photograph showing the size label. Also, I have had some real gems which are not my size. I just bought a gorgeous designer sundress in a brand I hadn’t heard of that was £5 is absolutely stunning and it’s a large I wouldn’t normally shop a large in a dress but it’s actually fine and a belt will make it work.

If I want to see quilted jackets, I’d search for this and heart a few in the style I like. This signals to the algorithm what I like.
Even if I don’t want those jackets. I like them and that’s enough. Even if they’re overpriced or whatever, forget that. This is your message to the algorithm.

Pricing is very varied. I find that some people massively overprice on here. Others underprice just wanting to clear stuff. Only you can decide whether it’s worth it!

If you receive something that’s damaged or stained and that isn’t mentioned on the listing, you’re well within your rights to complain and return. Depending on the value, they may refund without needing you to return it. You shouldn’t pay for the return postage / label.

I always have a ‘you win some, you lose some’ attitude to vinted purchases. What’s the worst that can happen? You relist them.

Hope this helps! X
