I am never knowingly under accessorised! I believe accessories can take an outfit from good to great so I’ll share with you a few of my ways of doing this.
Jeans & blazer outfit …
This type of outfit can be dressed up or down and made to look really different depending on your footwear, your bag and of course how you accessorise it!
Brooch - I love a brooch worn on a lapel.
Layered necklaces (worn out) a necklace can make a lot of difference, especially if you’re wearing black. It also works to break up a plain colour.
Scarf (silk or satin tied at the neck. So many ways of doing this. You can make it subtle by rolling it up or more visible by wearing the point to the front.
Skinny satin scarf is another option, tied in a pussy bow around the collar of a shirt or over a t shirt or knit. It also works well just worn around the neck and I’ve worn mine loads (black is my fave but also love the rust/brown version pictured.)
Snood/ warmer scarf - if you’re going to be outdoors consider adding a balaclava worn down as a snood or a leopard scarf or tartan stole over your blazer.
Belt - always love a belt if I’m wearing something tucked in I’ll wear either a leather knot belt or a plaited woven belt. I also love a belt over a blazer (see below). The leather knot belt or Obi belt is great for this. The obi definitely makes it feel dressier cinched in at the waist and these come in plain or metallics.
Socks -if my socks are going to be visible I want to make them work with the outfit. Whether trainers, loafers, boots, pointed flats. Maybe dogtooth or a burgundy spot. If I’m wearing chunky boots, the retro stripe socks are fab.
Great bag / contrasting colour or detail on the bag fringing etc. I love a bag (no surprises there) and change my bag regularly to go with my outfit.Thinking about colour, style as well as practicality and size I need for whatever I am doing that day or night. The fringed leather bag is a great all rounder and one of my faves. Also love a more classic look with a blazer (Geo, Classic or Minimal Leather Handbag)... and sometimes I will dress it down with a bumbag for a more casual look.
Casual outfit with leggings…
A casual outfit with leggings does not equal slob or like you are en route to the gym (altho you could be!) A little thought still means minimal effort but will look a bit more put together.
Socks over leggings (tonal) or pop of colour or smiley socks. I love the three stripe socks over my leggings (grey, navy, brown or black with three white stripes) or there are two stripe socks in green or mustard if you prefer a pop of colour. The smiley and heart 2 stripe socks are really popular and they look fab pulled up over leggings too. Don’t be shy with this one if you’re used to wearing trainer socks. darker colours grey three stripe or navy with a dark legging are a great way to get used to it and they look fab!
Hoodie under trench or balaclava hood showing.
Bumbag / cross body bag in tonal colour or a contrasting colour. The Utility bag (pictured) looks great with a casual look like this.
Cap - love the leather peaked tweed caps styled with this kind of look. Cap pictured is waxed navy with leather peak.Or the trucker caps.
Beanie or balaclava choosing a tonal colour to match your outfit or going for a pop of colour if that’s your style. Both look great.
Dressing up…
I love the opportunity to get dressed up. So if I am out somewhere nice, chances are I will dress up and accessories are definitely a part of that!
Jewellery I always consider my earrings and my necklaces as they’re quite close together, so if for example I wear large hoops i might not go for my large t bar necklace. I like a couple of layered necklaces worn with a string of pearls. I also really like the combination of the t bar hoops and the t bar necklace (this comes in a delicate chain or as a Large Gold T Bar necklace (which I wear daily). If I’ve gone for a statement earring I might hide or remove my necklaces.
Velvet Bow Brooch - I love this styled at my collar of I’m wearing a shirt. It looks great on a blazer too.
The skinny satin scarf also looks great worn with a velvet suit or a shirt/ blouse to dress it up.
Chunky pearl and heart choker - this is a fab statement necklace and definitely dresses up a plain or simple outfit. It can be worn as a single strand or together and if wearing as a single strand I quite like it layered with my gold necklaces.
Tulle collar - I adore this! I just love it with either a plain knit, a Cardi or even over a silk vest or plain top. A really easy way of dressing up a simple outfit.
Sequin cape - if you’re wearing a blazer for a dressier occasion consider adding a sequin cape over the top. I love this look for a night out if i know I’ll be keeping my blazer on. It also looks fab over a plain top, knit or vest. Great if you’re not keen on showing your arms too. And they just arrived in Burgundy!!!
Bags if i’m dressing up then I love a metallic bag or something with a bit of interest like fringing or sparkle . The leather fringed bag can be held as a clutch and I love the crystal bag for party season. My metallic bumbags get used all year round (holidays, festivals and nights out). That said I often reach for a simple neutral bumbag (black) if I’m wearing sequins.
Socks I know visible socks and a dressier shoe is a bit marmite but personally I love it. I love it with velvet Mary Jane’s, with a pointed flat or heel as well as with high sandals. I would choose my sparkly socks (there’s a thin version and also a thicker version which comes in loads of colours. I love the sheer checked socks the sheer florals and also the dogtooth and tulle socks look fab like this and give an instant update to your outfit.
