Maria is That Girl With the Bob on Instagram. I love finding out more from the people I’m following on Instagram… what their story is and how they ended up doing what they do…
How would you describe your style?
Classic and chic with a bit of rock chick edge. I love mixing pieces by small independent brands with preloved and the high street.
How long have you been on Instagram? Tell us a bit about your journey on there and what you share?
My first post was 27th January 2018 so it’s been 4 years. I've loved fashion since I was little and used to go to my aunts shop which was a treasure trove of pieces sourced from India but I decided to pursue a career in TV. About 5 years ago I changed job from being a post producer to working more behind the scenes and I really missed the creativity of my previous role. I realised I could merge my love of fashion with my passion for photography and film by creating my Instagram account and sharing my finds and styling tips to hopefully inspire others that fashion over 40 doesn’t have to be dull and also share wonderful small brands and boutiques.
What is your favourite independent brand and why?
That’s tricky as I have so many favourites. I absolutely love Rixo and Ganni – the dresses I own from these 2 brands areamongst my favs. I’m also really passionate about small brands like The Well Worn – Emma who runs it is so talented and creates amazing pieces from vintage and deadstock fabrics in small runs that are both unique and beautiful.
What is your favourite season to dress for?
I don’t really have a favourite. I absolutely love summer as it’s such an easy season to dress for as you can throw on a dress and sandals and be ready but then I love wearing jackets and blazers as we come into autumn and spring and you can’t beat a cosy knit, statement coat and beret in the winter!
Favourite High Street shop and why?
There’s so many! Definitely amongst the top would be; Mango for their dresses and coats, Zara or H&M for great tops and I love Whistles and & Other Stories for their quality and attention to detail.
What is your go-to look for dressing up?
I tend to keep it simple but like to add something special be it a bag or shoes and I always pair with gold jewellery and heels. I also look for details on pieces – a LBD can be elevated by unusual design details.
And your signature style for casual dressing?
Either jeans and a biker with boots or trainers or switch out the jeans for a midi skirt or dress. A biker is an absolute wardrobe staple for me and I wear mine with everything – it’s my rock chick roots.
What is your favourite accessory?
A lovely designer bag – a Chanel is on my dream wish list. A beautiful bag can really lift any outfit.
Are you a hoarder or a declutterer?
A bit of both – I’ve got pieces that I’ve had in my wardrobe for years and years that I can’t part but I also have a huge wardrobe clear out as we change seasons to keep things fresh.
Best style advice/tip?
Wear what you’re comfortable in and what makes you feel confident and you can’t go wrong. If it’s sustainable or from a small independent brand then even better!
Dream collab?
Did I mention the Chanel bag?
