Kimono Styling

Kimono Styling

How to style a kimono when you’re not at the beach.  Think your kimono is just for holiday? You are wrong! Kimonos are so versatile during the spring/ summer and here I am to tell you some different styling ideas to maximise your Summer Wardrobe. Dressed up, dressed down they’re def more versatile than you think!!

We all know kimonos look great on holiday. I have swimwear wafting round the pool. It has a little instant glam and makes you feel put together. So it looks great with shorts, but you can def try this at home too with a tank top or camisole underneath.

With jeans. I know everyone is saying skinny jeans are back in but I’m not a fan, sorry. So I’ll be wearing my kimonos with my wide leg jeans. If you have a shorter kimono that finishes at the waist or hip you might want to try with a straight leg Jean or a barrel. I love jeans and a kimono for a low key dressed up look. A silky camisole underneath, this looks great with sandals or cowboy boots.

With a t shirt underneath. Yes really! This was a surprise one for me too… one of those that I happened to try and just really liked. So here’s the thing… you might want to to go with a lighter T shirt . White or cream and it may depend on the kimono itself too. So I tried the Sunset T shirt with a brown lace kimono over the top she loved it! I think it would also work with some others…  give it a go!!

Belted kimono / so a belted kimono makes it into a little wrap top. You’ll need something under rather though. I’ve tried this with the vintage style kimono jackets and either the leather knot belt or the skinny tie belt
With linen trousers. I feel like everyone owns a pair of linen trousers. Probably wide leg? Am I right? Ok lots of people! They’re a summer staple and they look great with a kimono! You’re welcome ! I actually have some pink linen trousers from a few years ago with a slight cropped leg in a barrel shape and wore them on holiday with my kimono and a crochet vest underneath. Pictured.
This is with the pink linen trousers. It's the Vintage Kimono jacket. This colourway is no longer avaialble but there are lots of other designs.
With a dress. I have a couple of simple maxi dresses. One linen and one cotton that lend themselves to being worn with a kimono and look fab with it. Of course I can't find a pic but you should def give it a try!

With a lace skirt or satin slip skirt - there are lots of lace skirts around at the moment and satin slip skirts are showing no signs of going anywhere so chances are you may have one in your wardrobe… both of these can work with a kimono. I’d wear a t shirt underneath (see above) or a camisole. Also like the belted kimono look with this style of skirt.

For a pattern clash - I love my printed kimono jackets with my leopard jeans. Depending on the colours… you could also style with striped jeans or embellished / embroidered jeans.
Dressed up for a festival or on holiday over a strapless top and with shorts or a denim skirt... I love the metallic kimono styled like this.
