I am a big fan of a trenchcoat. Typically trenchcoats used to mean big city office jobs and were worn over power suits but in recent years they have featured heavily in autumn and spring fashion and the goods news is they aren't going anywhere. So you can easily justify buying a good one or having 'cough, cough... 5 like some people' (yes me) . I love that a trench can easily elevate your look. I love that they can be dressed up and down. I just need to quickly say that mine are different colours, shapes, two are vintage and one I have had for 8 yrs.

The invention of the trenchcoat is actually claimed by two British luxury clothing manufacturers,  Burberry and Aquascutum, with Aquascutum's claim dating back as far as the 1850s. However Thomas Burberry invented a fabric 1879 for a British Army officers raincoat. History lesson over… 

So, which bags to wear with a trench coat? Well there is no short answer to this. I love a trench dressed down with trainers or casual boots.  A leather bumbag is great for this look, in fact a leather bumbag or crossbody can work if your trench is dressed up as well.  The large leather bum bag is quite minimal looking so is great styled with smarter boots and a trench. The below above shows influencer Meg Blackpool in the Aligne trench of the moment with the large leather bumbag in dark brown with exposed gold zips. This colour way works great but I also love cognac, khaki, cream, black , orange, red, burgundy. The Dusky Pink regular size leather bumbag looks great against a darker trench ( I have a khaki one this works well with). Brighter colours are fab against navy too. 

The leather woven basket is great styled with trench. This is an all year round bag. I love my brown / tan leather basket with a trench and tan leather boots. Perfect combo and definitely one of my go/to's. The leather basket has an inner cotton drawstring bag to protect your things, which makes it a good all year rounder. I also like the black woven leather basket if I am wearing black shoes or boots. Dark brown is coming soon too!

Trench coats are fab over gym wear for an 'athleisure' look. Perfect when you’re dashing out or for the school run. I’ve styled The Leather Utility Bag here with a waxed cap and trainers with my trench. Striped Socks over leggings. Have I exercised or not? Zero effort and maximum comfort. This bag is the dark brown but it also comes in cognac, brown, black and navy. All of which look great with a trench btw!!

The Geometric Leather Bag looks great with a trench. Influencer Ali @alis_loveofstyle has styled her cropped trench with trainers and jeans for a casual look but the Geometric bag works equally well dressed up and personally I love this one. Cognac looks great against the classic beige trench, taupe is fab with khaki or navy. Burgundy is coming soon and I also love this against the beige or camel trench.

If you’re going for a smarter look, Hayley from @ElevenLoves.co.uk has styled her trench with the black minimal leather bag and the navy leather box bag. Both of these bags look great like this.

Sarah @sarahandthepinkdoor wears her trench with the oversized quilted bag. I’ve also gone for a similar look, with dungarees and leopard print underneath.
